If a student is showing any one of the signs or symptoms of COVID-19 they should stay home and contact their health care provider, they will provide instructions on next steps to follow. Student's must provide a clearance note from their health care provider as well as all documents related to COVID-19 testing (if applicable) before returning to athletic participation. The clearance note from the students health care provider must indicate whether COVID-19 testing was required.
The student/parent or guardian must contact the athletic training staff at Scarborough High School if they test positive for COVID-19. When they are informed of their results they will receive directions from their health care provider. Before returning student's must provide a clearance form from their health care provider as well as all documents related to COVID-19 testing. A Scarborough Athletics clearance form will need to be filled out by the physician that treaded the student-athlete for the COVID-19 infection. You may access the clearance form by clicking here. For more in-depth information regarding this question please visit the "Health" section of the COVID-19 page.
Yes, all adults and athletes should be completing the Daily Screening Tool prior to arrival at a practice session. The daily screening tool will be electronic, student-athletes will be able receive the link from their coach as well as be able to access the link to each sports specific form via the "Daily Screening" page on the "COVID-19 Info" page on the athletic website. You may access that page by clicking here.
A simple cloth face covering to slow the spread of the virus is fine (i.e. covering with ear loops). “Medical grade” masks are not needed for physical activity. No gaiters or bandanas are allowed at this time.
Locker rooms will be available for those students who are in school for learning that day. Students who are learning remote on a day and come from home are expected to come to practice ready to participate. Locker rooms will be used for changing only. A limited number of student-athletes will be allowed in the locker room at any one time. Locker rooms will not be used for showering purposes. It is recommended that student-athletes arrive dressed for the activity when possible. Furthermore, it is also recommended that student-athletes shower immediately upon arriving home after a practice/event.
An organized workout, commonly known as a “captains’ practice” would be considered a violation.
Scarborough Athletics has no authority over these outside programs. Athletes that compete on outside teams that travel, either in state or to another state, must follow the RECOMMENDATIONS FROM THE GOVERNOR'S OFFICE and the Maine CDC in terms of quarantining.
Each athlete will be required to provide their own water bottle. Water will be available in order to refill personal water bottles. Every water bottle should be clearly marked with the students name.
If a student experiences symptoms during a school practice/contest they should stop exercising immediately, put on face covering and report to your coach. The coach will contact the athletic training staff, isolate the student from the group and contact parents/guardians to arrange for transportation. If exercising at home and the student experiences symptoms they should stop exercising immediately, and have their parent/guardian contact their health care provider.
